I've been in business 24 years (25 next month) and I've seen a lot of things change when it comes to optimizing websites for search. Back then, the competition wasn't as fierce and it was easier to rank. Nowadays, it's much harder for the average business owner to rank their website without professional help because of things like what I'm about to tell you. Thanks to Google's "suggest an edit" feature, your competitors can go and drag your map pin to be 100+ miles away from your actual location. (I hope you read that last line with sarcasm and outrage because I definitely wrote it that way.) The result of the map pin being moved is you might rank better wherever they drag it to and much lower in your actual location which is not good. If this happens to you, please don't go into your business profile manager and fix it because doing so could cause your profile to be suspended!
